Imagine there being a way to trigger a cell phone camera with the blink of an eye – or bat of an eyelash?

Computer scientist Katia Vega has various types of makeup, including eye shadow, eyeliner and false eyelashes, which can be used to control electronic devices.

The false lashes are chemically metalized, and then a skin conductive material is applied as black eyeliner to connect conductive false lashes to a wearable device. A very low voltage circuit is completed when the wearer winks.

Vega is a researcher at the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and was recently featured on New Scientist.com. Her “beauty technology” is also featured on her website, katiavega.com
